Age Specific Program

ビーバースカウト[1][2]Beaver Scouts

Ages 6–7

Grades 1–2 of elementary school. Learning through play in colony meetings; a Leaf badge (木の葉章) for each of 38 items completed and a Twig badge (小枝章) for every 10 items.

  1. ビーバー[1]Beaver

    Grade 1 stage; works on Leaf badge items.

  2. ビッグビーバー[1]Big Beaver

    Grade 2 stage; continues Leaf badge items.

カブスカウト[1][3]Cub Scouts

Ages 8–10

Grades 3–5. Year-based courses (Rabbit, Deer, Bear) plus elective Challenge badges; in the last 3 months before moving up, 5th-graders do the Moon Ring (月の輪) transition.

  1. りす[1]Squirrel

    Pre-joining course: movement origins, Cub Promise and rules, sign, salute and motto; then the investiture.

  2. うさぎ[1]Rabbit

    Grade 3 course; completing the Rabbit requirements earns its progress badge.

  3. しか[1]Deer

    Grade 4 course; complete the Deer requirements.

  4. くま[1]Bear

    Grade 5 course; complete the Bear requirements.

  5. 月の輪[1]Moon Ring

    Transition for 5th-graders in the 3 months before moving up; wears the Moon Ring badge and neckerchief ring and covers the Boy Scout Tenderfoot (初級) requirements.

ボーイスカウト[1][4][5]Boy Scouts

Ages 11–14

Grade 6 to junior-high year 3; patrol system and outdoor activities. Since the April 2024 revision the ranks are Tenderfoot → 2nd Class → 1st Class → Kiku; Hayabusa moved to the Venture section.

  1. 初級スカウト[4][1]Tenderfoot Scout

    Wearing the Scout Badge, complete basics, health, scoutcraft (knots etc.) and good-turn items, make the Promise and get patrol leaders' council approval; can be done during the Cub Moon Ring.

  2. ２級スカウト[4]Second Class Scout

    After 3+ months as Tenderfoot: first aid, map and compass, knots, semaphore, evacuation route, a 10 km hike; approved by the patrol leaders' council.

  3. １級スカウト[4]First Class Scout

    As 2nd Class: camp cooking, improvised stretcher and bleeding control, international awareness, camp experience requirement.

  4. 菊スカウトHighest award[4][1]Kiku Scout

    After 1st Class: 6+ months in a leadership role, 6 proficiency badges incl. Camping and Camp Cooking, plan a patrol camp, explain the local hazard map, 4 days of service, Religion badge; examined and interviewed by the prefectural federation.

ベンチャースカウト[1][4][6]Venture Scouts

Ages 14½–17

Mainly high-school age; unit meetings and team Venture projects planned by the scouts. Since 2024 the ranks are Venture badge → Hayabusa → Fuji.

  1. ベンチャー章[4]Venture Badge

    After joining: share one's daily good turn, submit a plan for the next meeting, earn Map Reading and Citizenship badges, discuss Camp Fire Yarns from Scouting for Boys, Religion badge.

  2. 隼スカウト[4]Hayabusa Scout

    4+ months after the Venture badge: plan and run a 3-day/2-night mobile camp, Camping and Camp Cooking badges, 3 examiner-certified badges incl. First Aid, service project, a 'Hayabusa Project'; prefectural examination and interview.

  3. 富士スカウトHighest award[4][1]Fuji Scout

    6+ months as Hayabusa: career talk with the leader, plan a 3-day/2-night camp, 6+ examiner-certified badges incl. Camp Management, essay on Scouting for Boys, Fuji project. Highest rank, awarded in the name of the national Chief Scout (総長).

ローバースカウト[1][7]Rover Scouts

Ages 18–25

Young-adult section run under its own crew rules: self-development, service and helping younger sections. Classified as an education (member) section, not as leaders.
